Dan Farrelly is Buffer’s Newest Front-End Engineer

I’m so excited to announce that Dan Farrelly is Buffer’s next engineer!

Dan now lives in San Antonio and has been tremendous in helping us further our front-end.  The thing that amazes me the most is how Dan is completely self-taught.  He started in Civil Engineering, previously working in construction management and made the switch to web development.  He worked at Slated, a startup that connects independent filmmakers with investors, before joining Buffer.

In Dan’s short time at Buffer he’s worked on all areas of our app.  Dan made various feature, performance, and security improvements to our extensions and dashboard.  More recently, Dan just finished building out our API proxy for our web dashboard.

My favorite moment was when I asked Dan if he wanted to join us in South Africa, just a day before we were all leaving.  Without a doubt he quickly booked his flights and joined us on our retreat!
Crazy enough, on the retreat I found out that Dan had previously dated my next door neighbor when I was a kid.  I still can’t believe that!

Dan on Buffer:
I love everyone at Buffer’s can-do attitude. It’s a positive team that never finds any problem unsolvable. After transitioning careers three years ago, working at a customer-focused company has been such a pleasure as I’m constantly reminded that we’re building something people love to use. On a personal note, I’ve recently moved from NYC to San Antonio, and I’m in a constant mental debate between bagels and breakfast tacos. Outside of work, I love riding my bike, reading about urban planning and learning to take better photographs.

Where would you like to live?
I would love to live on the water one day. When I lived in New York, one of my favorite things was to take bike rides along the Hudson. I always found the water calming and a great place to think. Living on a river, lake or on the coast is a dream of mine.

What do you most value in your friends?
Loyalty and sense of humor. There is nothing better than seeing a friend for the first time in a while and being able to easily share a laugh.

What is your favorite journey?
The train ride out to Mt. Fuji in Japan. When the train comes around a mountain and you can see Fuji in all it’s majestic glory—that was the most breathtaking scene I’ve ever witnessed.

Who is your favorite hero of fiction?
Liam Neeson in Taken.
